I had a remote start on a car at one time and the transmitter was so powerful it would start the car fifty yards away.
If the modified OEM fob, which has a very short range on it, was used it would not be much good at all due to the limited range.
If you have to go out into the cold to start the car and then come in and wait for it to warm up it would defeat the purpose in my opinion.
