It has nothing to do with resolving a "problem".

There is a small group of people who just prefer the interaction that we get when we drive a car with a manual transmission.

There's the feeling of feathering the clutch, feeling the shifter slide in and out of the channels, searching for the correct gear for the up coming corner, and listening to the engine sing its song in concert to how we are driving our car that just gets to us on a deeper level than an automatic can provide.

Plus, the extra ponies are nice that you don't lose due to the transmission fluid being turned all the time, and the weight savings helps the car handle a smidge better.

No problem to solve, just more enjoyment for those of us who prefer full control of the power the engine has to offer.
