No question us colonials are spoiled by cheap petrol -- now peaking at about $3/gallon. It would not bother me one bit to see $1/gallon tax if it would reduce the number of speeding Hummers and Prius' and they used the funds to start rebuilding our crumbling superhighways. And I'm used to driving 30-40k miles per year between my two Crossies and an A6. I've driven quite a bit on the continent (and Ireland) and the distances are noticeably shorter in EMEA than they are here in the states. Crossing Germany is like going across Michigan and Illinois, just a lot more fun.
