Definitely not the wire hanging down in the picture. The wire hanging down with a connector at the end of it is the external temperature sensor. It has a nice home in the bumper, driver's side, in the lower louvre. Since the bumper is off it just hangs down. The connector on the external temperature sensor looks like a game piece from 'Sorry'.
