By referencing the Mann oil filters, we're indicating to use the fleece-type filter element, not the paper. Fleece-type will be more expensive. You can get these from several sources, with NAPA or WIX being a couple. Mann most likely supplies these to NAPA & WIX. Purolator also sells this design and Advance Auto handles it along with Purolator's paper-type version. As stated before, search around this Forum and you'll find folks that have found these filters at reasonable prices.
Will the paper-type element harm your XFire? If you're going to change your oil every 3000 miles or so, probably isn't a factor. If you're going to let the car's monitoring system tell you to change the oil at the 7000 mile interval, then I'd use the fleece-type.
Regarding the 5w40 Mobil 1 ESP Formula as a viable substitute for the original 0w40 that was used in the XFire, the 5w40 oil may actually be a better quality oil since its chemistry has been upgraded compared to the 0w40. I use the 0w40 Mobil 1 product (and probably most XFire Owners follow suit) because Pep Boys & Walmart still handle the product. But I believe the 0w40 will disappear one of theese days as the 5w40 ESP Formula is being pushed by Mobil 1.
