He didn't say "look at that car!" the kid asked, "Is that your car?" and after SRTSIX said yes he asked if he could shake his hand. The way I read and would take it is the kid thinks it's a nice car and would like to shake the man's hand. It's not really that uncommon and is rather respectful.
Of course as usual you've turned an uplifting thread into a petty argument.
