It's really interesting about kids today. there are alot of good kids out there, but in general, what I've seen is more of a self centered viewpoint in them than I did in the past. In general, alot of them are really disrespectful and I think alot of that is as a result of rather forceful messages of the "rights of the individual" viewpoint that our culture has. Kids tend to think in black and white, they don't in general have the ability to think logically like adults do, they have logic but it's a different logic that will change dramatically. Our culture has as a rule, a viewpoint of kids as miniture adults, which is wrong, because they are miniture adults in a larval stage, and not yet developed into what they will become.
So we try to make them BE what we expect of adult like thought and behavior but they can't get there. That does not however excuse them for how they seem to have no idea of tressapssing on others property, or personal rights, and they then look at you as if you're an alien to which that may be true in their way of thinking.
The best way I've found of dealing with them is to make it seem as if I have their best interests at heart when I want them to do something like not cutting through my yard with their bikes or digging snow holes in my yard and tossing the waste into the driveway. In that case, when I catch them at it I bring the snowshovel out and advise them that we're going top learn about the safe way to shovel snow so they don't hurt their backs in 20 years from now when they have to do their own driveways.
