I agree with all of this but I will add something extra.

Kids today think they have the same rights as an adult. The teacher is always wrong and the cop is always wrong. The sad part is parents buy into that. When the teacher calls home the parents always assumes the teacher is wrong and their child is right. The same applies with police officers. The cop is always wrong and the parent is always lying to police officers and defending their children.

I was raised in a home that NEVER wanted to get a call from the teacher. They would be embarassed! My parents would run up to school and apologize to the teacher. My parents were always on the teacher's side. If I was in trouble with the police my parents would help lock me up (that never happened). If I were speeding and got a ticket my parents would say "you probably deserved it and if the cop said you were speeding then you must have been speeding". Today the parents say things like "my child wouldn't do that" and "if my child says he didn't do it then he really didn't do it".

My point is times have changed for both the kids and parents. We live in a world where all authority among teachers and police no longer exist. It makes it real difficult for them to do their jobs and whip the younger generation back into shape. It is a result of lack of support from parents. The kids today know this and use it to their advantage. They think they have rights because their parents gave them rights.

Whatever happened to family dinners without TV's? You need family time at home. Not run around time going from the basketball to the softball to the football games.
