n/p glad I could help.... If you use the wiring harness you won't loose anything. You
DO have to hook up the (pink I think) wire labeled amp turn on. The VW instructions will tell you not to but then you won't hear anything out of your speakers. There have been numerous discussion around replacing head units and using either speaker out or line out.
Here's a summary:
Several people suggest and use
Line out
* Better sound, less distortion
* Your speakers will last much longer as they won't be over driven
* Lower volume or rather finer volume range
Several others are
using speaker out (I did with my Sony and am using speaker out with my Becker)
* Easier install, just connect the wires and plug it in
* Louder volume or rather coarse volume range
