I'm slowly trying to get up to speed on Tires/Rims and what the spec numbers are telling me.
Here are my current good tires that I want to keep:
Front ~ 225-40 R18 Continentals
Rear ~ 255-35 R19 Continentals
That first number (225 or 255) is the tire width in milimeters, so I'm assuming that is what would used to determine the width size of the rim.....???
If I do the math on your Blue SRT-6, it's 19 x 9.5 on the rears, with a tire size of 275x30x19.
If I calculate 275mm to inches it's 10.82'' as the tire width.
Is there any number on the Tire that would lead you to the correct Rim width...???
Thanx...
A lot of variables here that I am not qualified to answer. I found the tire expert I was comfortable with and let him figure it out. My OEM SRT6 wheels are 9in wide and provide a fairly good footprint (tread width). My Milleniums are 9.5in wide ergo providing a wider footprint. I went from a 35 to a 30 sidewall which gives me a lower profile while allowing me to use a larger 255 to 265 tire and hardly altering the speedo reading. Where you get in trouble with the larger profile tires is the rubber contacting the sheet metal of the fender well, and/or "bottoming out". The 275 tires as you figured, and I don't doubt your math, give me a great footprint with the 9.5 inch rims and NO contact with the body. I will definately as for professional advice before I go to the 285s although members have said a 305 will work. I don't want to worry about spacers, speedo error, or tire rub so I go with what I do to a safe limit wih a larger tire.
Speed/RPM Calculator
If I were you I would go to a tire shop that does a large volume business and talk to the manager. If he's worth his pay grade, he won't BS you.
Re: Chrome vs Hyper-Silver, The H-Silver is a closer match to the door handles while the rims polish up like a chrome.
Good Luck and many happy miles. PS: the M's are easily removable and and a number of Mercedes Style center caps are available.
