Not any more! It may have been paint but it sure seemed like carbon. I'd expect paint to flake at least a little. This stuff came off with the SOS pad as a black goo. Before I started I could see small patches of stainless. Maybe the paint was weak from the exhaust heat. I like the bare stainless look better with my SSB paint. So, clean it stays.
