Default Re: TPMS System

I am ready to replace the tires on my '05 - purchased "new" in 2007 with 61 miles. I have read about the 5-7-10 years battery life for the TPMS and wonder if I shouldn't get the TPMS replaced (they can't actually change the batteries can they?) along with the new tires.

Does anyone know for sure whether the sensors are off until motion occurs (in which case I only 3 years of battery life used up since I use seperate snow wheels in winter) or are the TPMS wheel sensors on all the time in which case I have 6-7+ years into their battery life.

Thanks
