Looking at the photo of the hub way back in this thread I see that it does not look too smooth.
Any nicks and scratches on it will cut the oil seal lip and ruin it real fast. I hope you put oil on it when you assembled it as well.
Also I hope the face that you cut on the hub was machined square to the bore.
The face the oil seal runs on should be ground, if not the seal will wear out fast. Some of these pulleys are made like crap with an eye to a fast buck is my opinion.
When a hub is too long the engineering behind it is totally lacking.
