One side of the screw is coated. To me it looks like sand can embed in it and make it a grinder on the other screw. There is all kinds of pastey metal goo all over it. I think some of the lube was getting through the bearings. Time for the spare! This SC has close to 90K on it.

The phenolics I just ran into over the years here, the SC spacer is from 240M3, the lowers are TVT and the uppers are LET.

I tried the 180 stat over the winter and it seemed like the CEL was pending and did not cause illumination.

Fan controller controller. This box rocks, set the temp you want to target. With my 160 stat I'm keeping the car right at 175F.

Les needs this! This is really something. Does your fan run most all the time trying to keep that lower temp.? It will be interesting to see your ect's later this summer when outside temp.'s soar. Keep us posted on this new mod.

It's been very cool outside lately, we'll see summer temps here someday!
So far it cools down quickly and turns off.

Interesting.........
The 160F stat and fan controller rock.
I set the fan even lower to come on at 170.
So far it's been really cool outside this spring. I can't tell how well it will work in hot weather. But at 68F at 80mph it will hold 172F no problem. The fan is making the difference even at speed. I had it set for 175F and it would hold 176 all day.
So, with no other new mods I go to the track last night and my AFRs drop from the ragged edge 12.7 to 11.0 all the way through 3rd. The car felt slower, too fat.
Screaminjoe used a pot on the ECT sensor to enrichen his AFRs.

Works great! Bumped my target temp up to 185F. When the ECT hits 190F it runs full speed and cools it down quick. So far even with outside temps in the 90s I have not seen my ECT over 190F even at a constant 80mph.

I did some research and decided to increase the ECT to make sure the engine oil would burn off any condensation. I think having the fan running most of the time would help you guys with the Waldig supercooler. I can't seem to get good flow through the bottom mount H.E.

Car runs good, I'm happy with the performance and am just enjoying it for a while. I actually went about a month without opening the hood!

Glad to hear you have it dialed in and are enjoying it. Hottest temp.'s that I've seen, are 205deg. after several hot laps in 105deg. afternoon heat. With my EC tune, that included the fan mod, it kicks on at 202deg.'s(I think). Wonder why they don't set it lower? Does your fan continue to run when you turn the engine off if it hasn't reached the set temp.?

Yeah, mine started on low at 200F and didn't go full speed until 215 or something. . We tried to do the 180 mod but they couldn't get it to work. I got pissed and went my own way.
I have the box wired to turn off with key so no, it stops when the motor is not running.

Next time I go to the drag strip I'm turning that puppy WAY down to see how much ECTs affect power.

Did you have to request the fan mod in the EC tune?

Are you guys running DashDaq to find exact engine temps or just aftermarket gauges?

I am not a thermometer but my underhood temps seem hotter than other vehicles that I've owned.

Where do I get my hands on one of these fancy lower temp thermostats?

Thanks for all the constant feedback Tunaglove!

I'm pretty sure it was just part of the tune, it wasn't extra but I did inquire about it to be sure.
I'm running the PLX DM100obdII with separate Boost and AFR modules. And yes, you're right, we do run a little hot(normal). According to Rob at NW's, there isn't much to gain if anything with running a lower temp. thermostat. The stock stat is what he sells. And yes, I've gleaned a bit from Tuna myself.

Thanks guys!
I have a Waldig style 180 stat. He has a thread showing you how to make one on here. Also a Trucktec 160 stat in there now for summer.
The 160 stat doesn't make any difference from the 180. The motor runs too hot to get much lower than 180 once all warmed up. And you don't want your oil too cold either.

The fan controller works great BUT once it gets over 90 degrees outside it runs ALOT. I've noticed that if you are cruizing over 75mph the ECTs really climb causing the fan to run even though you are going down the freeway. I'm still messing with temp stuff, I'm going to try an electric booster pump soon before the water pump. I don't know why I keep messing with this stuff, it's just my hobby I guess. I'm waiting for fall, I hate wrenching in this heat LOL!

I'm thinking of pulling the fan and shroud for the next track day. Some consider the shroud a restriction that limits the cooling at high speed. Just another myth to prove or disprove. If it works, because my xfire isn't a daily driver, I may change for a non shrouded fan.
