Max fuel efficiency RPM speed
Has anybody conducted a maximum fuel efficiency study for the SRT-6? I seem to get the most out Of my tank on the freeway cruise control set at 2,500 RPM which coencidently keeps me at 71 MPH with the A/C off.
Here's an answer with some logic and a little anecdote...
I would think the max efficiency is right before the supercharger kicks in at 1600 RPM. Which combined with the squared velocity effect of drag vs. MPH, makes the speed of 40-45 MPH the most efficient speed. Here's a little data: I just moved from San Antonio to Niagara Falls. My commute changed from 25-35 MPH neighborhoods to 40-45 parkway. My mileage increased dramatically--more so than entire tankfuls on the freeway. This would comfirm my hunch of just under 1600 RPM.
Having said all that, a momentus occasion: I got 300 miles on a tankful for the very first time! Woo-hoo!
Hope that helps.

2100 on the NA and 2500 on the SRT. Best efficiency with a standard factory tune.
I get over thirty on the NA and about 28 on the SRT when cruising onthe Interstate. My wife and I take seperate vacations together. Her in her SRT, me in my wimpy NA 6 spd. On our last trip to the Smokies (Dragon Fontana run) we compared our milages.
Last weekend we went to Southwest MO in her SRT. 363 miles on a tank before the light came on. Mostly driving at 65 MPH.

There's lots of gas left, its just getting where the price is forcing many to get fuel efficient cars and that leaves more for us.
I'm quite serious.

If I drive a consistent 70-72 on cruise, I get 23-24 mpg (350 miles) in the SRT6 and 28-29 (400) in the n/a. I once drove an extended distance in the n/a at 55-60 one time and saw just over 30 mpg, but what fun is that. Regardless of which I drive, there are always a couple cars that I have to pass quickly to justify that burst to 100 mph. I might take the roadster from MI to FL this November for a long weekend just because it gets ~30 while my 2003 A6 2.7T returns the same gas mileage as the SRT6. But, it is a big, comfortable, sports touring vehicle!
Some figures in this thread do not add up.
The gas tank hold 60 liters total with 10 liters in reserve.
So some mpg figures posted above would be from full to totally empty.
60 liters = 15.8 US gallon = 13.2 Imperial gallon.
The reserve is about,
10 liters = 2.6 US gallon = 2.2 Imperial gallon gallons
MPG is better than stated in some of the above posts.
