Agreed about the pulley. If you look at the service manual it emphisizes that the pulley, seal, and sprocket surface must be completely free of oil at assembly. The old seal seemed pretty crusty so I don't think it liked having a new diameter surface to conform to. No biggie, try and try again!


from manual:
Note: The circumference and the sealing lip of the
front crankshaft oil seal, as well as the mating
contact surface MUST be free of oil and grease.
