If I recall correctly, years ago on a Ford model truck, the OEM air intake was set too low and the result was hydraulic lockup of the engines. The ram air ducts acted like ram water intakes while driving through puddles. I'd keep the air inlets as high as you can!
This happened to a friend of mine back in the late 90's with his honda civic.
Too low of an intake is not a good thing.
