Two thoughts:
1. Your tutorial with clear pics allowed me the confidence to remove the plastic thingy without fear of botching things up.
2. After reading the thread about Kola's problems with the locked trunk and how it got resolved, I decided to reinstall the emergency release. I think at this point the pluses out weigh the minuses in keeping it installed.
