I'm thinking that your mechanic who couldn't even read your codes may not have properly tested fuel pressure. Fuel pump/Fuel filter regulator/ is there gas in the tank? HA just joking around.
Dinasrt - You are right on the problem. The mechanic who originally looked at the car only checked to see that the fuel pump was running. He didn't check the pressure. Apparently the pump was not putting out adequate pressure, and that shuts the engine down and won't let it restart. The new fuel pump should be in tomorrow, so we'll see if that cures the problem. I sure hope so as it cost $490. I also picked up a new fuel filter. Of possible interest may be that the fuel pump was actually cheaper through a Chrysler dealer than it was from Mercedes. Same part, only $89 less from Chrysler! So I guess you can't always assume that the parts will cost less from MB.

Once I get the car running again and back home, I'll take your advice and do the fix on the RCM. Don't want to be stranded on the road again if I can help it.
