Ummm.....that would be the 04 GTO.....LS1 5.7L engine ...350 HP...365 lb/ft. Not the 400/400 LS2 6.2L in the 05/06.
So, I'll stand by my original assertion that the SRT6 is about dead even at any speed up to 140 MPH with an 05/06 LS2 powered GTO. Differences would come from manufacturing variances or maintenance on individual cars or one driver getting a jump on another. But they should be very close. It's possible but not likely that the OP ran into an 04 GTO but those things are almost as rare as an SRT6. Not many were made in that single year of LS1 production and a lot of those have been lost to accidents from unskilled drivers.

I'll tell you one place the 3,800 lb GTO does beat the SRT6. Fuel efficiency! I could get 26 MPG in pure highway driving with the GTO. I've never been able to get more than 23 out of my SRT6. Odd that a 3,800 lb car with a 6.2L engine would be more fuel efficient than a 3,200 lb car with a 3.2L engine. The "old" Chevy pushrod V8's are amazing in many ways.
