It only works until it splits in half! Although wood is quite strong, such a short piece of wood is very easily split. Without a pliable material in between, that spreads the load more evenly, you will have a
point load that could easily exceed the strength of such a short piece of wood. I lift and move buildings for a living, please believe me.
