At one time, I had a 6speed and an auto roadster. I have taken both consoles apart a few times for various reasons and it certainly looks to me like the trim with the window switches is the same part in both cars.
The auto has the "PRNDL" assembly around the shift, with a small trim piece that grabs the inside of the big opening.
The Manual has a boot with a plastic frame thing that grabs the inside of the big opening.
Getting the frame out with the window switches in it (so you can get access to the console screws, etc.) is way easier in the manual, at least in my experience. You need only pinch the boot on the sides and pull it out. Taking out the trim around the auto seemed more difficult.
