I was driving to work on Friday and was stuck behind this slow vehicle on a two lane road and the moment the road opened up to a four lane highway, I sped up and may have pushed the gas peddle a bit too much.
The car revved up and took off and when I took my foot off of the gas, it downshifted quite abruptly and when I put my foot on the gas, it felt if the car had slipped into neutral.

I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the engine down and started it right back and it just drove normally after that.

I am wondering as to what happened. Any ideas?

I had a very small transmission leak from the seal underneath and got everything changed and had a transmission fluid changed. There have been no signs of he leak but this incident has left me wondering.

Please let me know if anyone has seen similar behavior.
