Default Transmission issue?

I was driving to work on Friday and was stuck behind this slow vehicle on a two lane road and the moment the road opened up to a four lane highway, I sped up and may have pushed the gas peddle a bit too much.
The car revved up and took off and when I took my foot off of the gas, it downshifted quite abruptly and when I put my foot on the gas, it felt if the car had slipped into neutral.

I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the engine down and started it right back and it just drove normally after that.

I am wondering as to what happened. Any ideas?

I had a very small transmission leak from the seal underneath and got everything changed and had a transmission fluid changed. There have been no signs of he leak but this incident has left me wondering.

Please let me know if anyone has seen similar behavior.

Thanks all,

Paul

you went And to limp mode.this is when something happens abruptly to the engine or transmission to save you from hurting something your car goes into left mode. By turning the engine off and restarting resets the computer. You didn't heard anything this is normal. I had this happen to me a few times. Specially if you're an intern and you back out of it right in the middle of the turn and then mail it again you would go to let mode, as far as the transmission fluid goes, I'm not there so I don't know, who change the transmission fluid and did they do it correctly. jim

Low fluid level will cause this to happen. Was it the connector plug that was leaking and did they replace it?

Thanks much!

The transmission fluid was done by a friend of mine who works on high performance engines and I used OEM filter, fluid and gasket. I also bought the after market dip stick to measure up the fluid to ensure that the oil levels are adequate. I have put almost 2000 miles on it since and the transmission has been shifting perfectly normal.

Now in the hindsight this also happened to my 2007 Mercedes S550 with 12k miles a couple of years (have sold it since) as I accelerated heavily once and its transmission went into a "confused state" :-) and I had to shut the engine down and then restart and it was fine after that.

I love the car and this is my second Xfire. The first one was a stick and this one is automatic and is my daily driver. I put roughly 65 miles on it daily and absolutely love it.

I am hoping that it was what we are thinking it is and everything is perfectly fine.

Thanks again to you guys and this forum.

Paul
