I decided to go with the Infinity Kappa 62.9I two-way speakers, in part because they match the other components (something in my head that says it all needs to be Infinity), and also because I scored them for $50 on eBay.
I worked on my passenger door first, and compared the sound of the new and stock speakers by using the balance function on the stock head unit. It's hard to put to words, but in comparison, the stock speakers had an artificial, tired sound. The Kappas were very rich and bright (in part by the dedicated tweeters) and really brought out the music and highs, something the stock setup failed at. Note: I also have 270uf capacitors installed on these speakers. Although the capacitors might be the best bang for your buck, I would argue that these speakers may very well be the single best investment I've made on my Crossfire, and at $50, I couldn't go wrong.
I had full intentions to eventually get to the subs, but to be honest, the new highs actually complement the boom of the existing subwoofers, so for now I will leave them be. This was not a hard install at all--completely worth the time. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
I did a write-up a few years ago for my new (then!) Infinity Reference 632cf door speakers.
I agree-for $50, it's one heckuva' improvement!
