Infinity Kappa 62.9I Door Speaker Replacements
I've briefly mentioned this in another thread, but wanted to dedicate a thread to reviewing my new door speakers. I spent time a couple of days ago Dynamatting my doors, and also took the opportunity to install new speakers while the door panels were out. I decided to go with the Infinity Kappa 62.9I two-way speakers, in part because they match the other components (something in my head that says it all needs to be Infinity), and also because I scored them for $50 on eBay.
I worked on my passenger door first, and compared the sound of the new and stock speakers by using the balance function on the stock head unit. It's hard to put to words, but in comparison, the stock speakers had an artificial, tired sound. The Kappas were very rich and bright (in part by the dedicated tweeters) and really brought out the music and highs, something the stock setup failed at. Note: I also have 270uf capacitors installed on these speakers. Although the capacitors might be the best bang for your buck, I would argue that these speakers may very well be the single best investment I've made on my Crossfire, and at $50, I couldn't go wrong.
I had full intentions to eventually get to the subs, but to be honest, the new highs actually complement the boom of the existing subwoofers, so for now I will leave them be. This was not a hard install at all--completely worth the time. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

I agree-for $50, it's one heckuva' improvement!

Also, I've search and found some for $60 .............and some up to about $150 price range. Do you have the info on what seller on EBAY?
Thanks.
PNA, yes, the new speakers sound fabulous using a CD. I also use a Griffin Roadtrip FM Transmitter for my iPod--the sound is certainly better now, although you have to crank the volume up considerably more to get the same volume as you would listening to a CD. But yes, there is a dramatic difference--the Kappas have killer highs and miss, and with the 270uf capacitors I got from Maxcichon, the subs are left just handling the lows--it's a perfect mix. $60 sounds like a steal--the ones I got for $50 were used. Hope this helped!

This is how they look without the covers. The tweeter pivots so you can direct it yup toward the seats.

The only modification I had to make was to file a few bumps from the plastic speaker housing so they would fit--easy fix.

Bought my Infinity Ref. 6030cs from this guy on Ebay. Paid a little more then Amazon's price but these all come w/ 2 yr. warranty! Fantastic sound when paired with my Blaupunkt Memphis MP66. Everything was plug and play!!!
By the way: He's out of the Infinitys but has many other comparable brands...

so im having an issue, how did you guys install these speakers with the stock plastic surrounds? these speakers dont seem to like the plastic holder, it doesnt create a good seal ,what am i missing? and then it seems like the stock speakers sound better, (no capacitor mod) am i the only one that experienced this?
are kappa 629i and 6032cf both plug and play to stock amp? i have been hearing that you want 2 ohm impedance for stock amp, I see that the 629i are 4 ohm?? Please help me out someone!

I am starting to wonder if i can just put these KAPPA units in the rear as well, i wonder how much bass i would lose. My woofers are blown so they sound like crap. Id imagine anything would be an improvement.
any thoughts?
Interesting, I just put these same speakers in my car with he stock amp and whenever I turn the volume all the way up I get massive clipping in the speakers. I called Crutchfield and they told me that my stock amp is underpowering the Kappa Infinities they told me that because the amp and/or my head unit is underpowering the speakers I am getting the clip sound with volume turned up. They told me I needed to purchase a more powerful amp to rid this problem. because the stock amp is dialed into the stock door speakers that i had before.
Are you guys exeperiencing this same problem? Can you turn your volume all the way up without clipping? And if so are you using the stock amp or a more powrful amp.
If someone believes I am suffereing from another problem please let me know

The guy at Crutchfiedl was NOT accurate with you. With ANY speaker, clipping comes from overdriving the amp...have you made any adjustments at the head unit, i. e., played with the limited bass/treble controls? You may have to cut back on the bass to reduce the distortion you're hearing. Sound is a waveform, and when you flatten the top of it (when looking at it with an oscilloscope, for example), that indicates that the signal is being cut or clipped...I'd be careful of replacing the stock amp if there is no need. There are a number of other things (automatic volume control, for example) that will be eliminated if you replace the stock amp.
I would suggest, if you have a speaker that only has the foam that has torn/separated, take a look at my thread on repairing it with tissue paper and rubber cement. I have done it to one of mine some time ago, and it's still working fine!

Thanks for getting back with me so quickly and trying to help as I am really baffled. First of all my speakers are new and I am getting the distortion in both speakers when I max out the volume. I do not get the clipping with the volume at half or below.
You are right, I did turn up the bass and treble on the head unit and so I will try that. But I cannot understand why I AM GETTING THIS distortion clip in both speakers as soon as I max up the volume!!
Sorry for not getting back to you quicker...have a short hospital stay to finish....What's the ohm rating on these? Did you ever get the problem solved?
