I presume the ones OEM are metal...what kind of new metal?

I do recall them using copper in the "good old days" but they phsed them out in pref for steel 'cause they knocked against things, pinched, DIYers are attracted to refabricate etc. and they wore too easily.

Last I checked, copper was a metal as well. Perhaps, he's referring to a larger diameter or a special coating or something.
