Since Ford has quit producing the Crown Vic, I wonder if I could convince the department to switch to...hmm. Yeah, but you can't put a lightbar on a convertible and there's no room inside for undercover lights. Not to mention the radio stack and computer! But wouldn't it be cool to pull some rice-burner over in an SLK32 or SRT-6? Maybe a dedicated traffic/pursuit vehicle?
It's really a "buzz kill" to come off an AMG high and get into a gutless CV-PI. The Charger ain't so bad, but still. I'm a sgt/shift supervisor and one of my ill informed newbies try to convince me the CV could keep up with my AMG. Kids! Don't want to lose my stripes just to prove a point! Maybe I'll just put him on foot patrol for a month!
You need to come north. I had a Camaro Z-28 for year for traffic back in the early 90's, and the state has Mustangs even today. Everyone is going Dodge here to replace the CV's. My old dept is still running Impalas... Before I moved on the Sheriff's Dept, I had an SRT8 Jeep for a few months....that I liked...but fuel mileage was a problem... I am retiring at the end of the month unless the Sheriff thinks of something else for the old guy to do...but, I had a lot of fun doing traffic...can't say that about the rest of the job...
