Default Greetings and salutations!

Hi all

I'm new to the forum. I've joined because I've been told this forum is a much more "mod" active group than the SLK forum. Rather than just lurking, I figured I'd join up and take full advantage of the expertise of the group.

I'm the proud owner of the SLK32 AMG and I'm a bit of a gear head. I hope you SRT-6'ers will accept me into the fold! I've only had my car a few months but I am now in a long-term, committed relationship.

I've installed a new SC-IC pump (CM30), replaced the TPS/Accelerator assembly, soldered the K40 relay and the power seat relay, etc, etc, etc.

I must say, that registering for the forum was akin to going through TSA security at LAX. My gawd I had to enter that stupid "image verification" 4 times (and that was after countless "refresh" attempts to get one I could read!). I guess there are a lot of spam-bots trying to buy Crossfires!

So hello again from the HOT south.

Wow! I've always joked about dropping the V12 Bi-Turbo into mine. I guess anything is possible. Nice job!

Welcome rfourt. I am an SLK32 AMG owner lurking here also. There are a lot more people modding & racing their cars here than on the Mercedes forums.

I hate those blasted image verifications too.

No more lurking; welcome! A couple of the most highly modded (stage3) M112 engines here on this Forum, belong to SLK32AMG cousins. A lot of us here have dual citizenship w/ MBWorld.

Welcome from Tennessee! I really could care less that your car doesn't have as many points on the star as mine. We both have cars that, in my opinon, are stars!

From your earlier post I believe we have a 'thin blue line' connection as well. Plenty of info for modding here....it only costs $$$$$$$....

Hi rfourt,

Welcome. You will find there are more than a few Slk32 owners who are active here (I have 3 SLK32's myself). 32krazy comes to mind as an active SLK32 owner here who has yet to meet a mod he didn't try on his car. Buggin, another slk32 driving forum regular, got the ball rolling on the wavetrac groupbuy that so many of us here are very grateful to have in our cars.

And yes, this forum (and it's cool Crossfire crowd) is far more "mod"-active than the Slk forums (and SLK owners in general). As an example, I created a paddle shifter kit for Slk32s (thinking they would be all over it) .... there were oohs and ahs among SLK owners, but so far, only 5 SLK32 owners have ended up doing the MOD while at the same time I have supplied the same paddle-shifter kits to about 30 Crossfire owners.

You will find that with rare exceptions, the SLK32 is the same as a Crossfire. The only fundamental differences that come to mind are in the lateral acceleration/yaw circuitry. Mechanical differences like wheel size, spring/shock rates and exhaust components (and of course, exterior sheet metal and interior finish pieces) are really the only places where the parts list diverge.

As a fellow SLK32 owner who has been graciously excepted into this cool crowd (or at least feels like he has been : ), I say ... welcome aboard.
Chris

Proof positive that law enforcement will make you crazy. Trying to mod my car on a cop's salary!

Since Ford has quit producing the Crown Vic, I wonder if I could convince the department to switch to...hmm. Yeah, but you can't put a lightbar on a convertible and there's no room inside for undercover lights. Not to mention the radio stack and computer! But wouldn't it be cool to pull some rice-burner over in an SLK32 or SRT-6? Maybe a dedicated traffic/pursuit vehicle?

It's really a "buzz kill" to come off an AMG high and get into a gutless CV-PI. The Charger ain't so bad, but still. I'm a sgt/shift supervisor and one of my ill informed newbies try to convince me the CV could keep up with my AMG. Kids! Don't want to lose my stripes just to prove a point! Maybe I'll just put him on foot patrol for a month!

Not sure what they pay you in your neck of the woods, but the cops here can well afford their toys. You have a steady job w/ benefits and retirement. I appreciate cops (my daughter's one), but don't feel you should be complainin'.

Always great to recognize another member from Alabama, we are somewhat sparse.
They are mostly around Huntsville, but a few more scattered around.
I am in Lineville, maxcichon is in Auburn, cw & blacksrt-6 in Millbrook.
max and I are roadsters, cw & blacksrt-6 are 3 srt-6's, 2 coupes and one roadster.

max could have used a buddy who was also a cop not too long ago, but I think he now has his indescretion all sorted out ......

Hmmm, was I complaining? Sorry if it came off that way. I guess cops in general like to think we're underpaid (we are). In Alabama, LEO's can start at just above minimum wage. I work at one of the better departments and our starting officers make around 38K and top out around $54K. Not bad for someone with a GED...

I love my job and certainly didn't get in it for the money. I've got three daughters and can't imagine them being a cop. I hope they are smarter than me.

Ever once in a while, when approaching a car on a traffic stop, I do a gut check. It's easy to get complacent. But that little old blue haired lady behind the wheel may have a Glock in her lap and she may be in a bad mood. Bottom line, if someone wants to kill a cop, and you are that cop, you are gonna die. You can prepare all you want, but there's no defense for an ambush (the cops killed while eating lunch in your neck of the woods comes to mind).

Ok, my time on the soapbox is up.

TIME TO DRIVE!!!!!

Roll Tide! or War Eagle! if you are so inclined. (As a cop, for me football is just another PITA...gotta love 100K plus drunks!!).

Yeah, I haven't seen too many SRT-6's and even fewer SLK32's in my area. However, if you want to see a ragged out Crown Vic with 26" rims, or plastic coated Civics with wings that would make a Dodge Daytona blush, we've got plenty of both!

Thanks for the welcome, I'm glad I'm here. "At my age, I'm glad to be anywhere!"

38k? Where I'm from, it's 32k +3% with an Associates degree, +5% with a Bachelors.
I'm trying to get on with the Fire Dept right now, cross your fingers.

Wow. That's harsh! My daughter's a student at GT, so I know what life in Atlanta is like (good and bad).

Best of luck to you. I've never understood why ANYONE would go rushing IN to a burning house!! But of course, I'm sure there are those who wonder why we run to where the shots are coming from!

rfourt; Not knowing what you guys make back/down there, I should have kept my mouth shut, and honestly meant no disrespect. Compared to the risks involved, I'll have to agree that all Cops are underpaid. We worry about our daughter every time we hear the scanner start talking. Anyway... Cops have some of the best stories to tell about fast cars, so I look forward to some of yours. Again, Welcome.

Congrats on having intelligent offspring I was accepted to GT, and toured the campus but decided it wasn't really for me. It is a great school and the campus, for the most part, is fantastic. Unfortunately, right outside school grounds is still a city full of homelessness and desperate criminals. I read an article in my local paper a few days ago about an increasingly popular movement to allow students with gun permits to carry on campus; some school officials are even on board. At this point, I'm all for it. I'm tired of hearing that another student or teacher was robbed.

I imagine she already knows this, but make sure your daughter uses the buddy system. I know it seems juvenile, but it works.

Anyway......back to the cars!

You need to come north. I had a Camaro Z-28 for year for traffic back in the early 90's, and the state has Mustangs even today. Everyone is going Dodge here to replace the CV's. My old dept is still running Impalas... Before I moved on the Sheriff's Dept, I had an SRT8 Jeep for a few months....that I liked...but fuel mileage was a problem... I am retiring at the end of the month unless the Sheriff thinks of something else for the old guy to do...but, I had a lot of fun doing traffic...can't say that about the rest of the job...
