TO be honest i don't know, maybe it's cutting power to things related to the transaxle, i have a 6 speed so i cant tell you.
But i can tell you that when my RCM went out my engine randomly died, or wouldn't crank. The speedo would go all the way to 160 and back. I think taking 15 minuets of your time to check it would be worth the hundreds of dollars your going to spend taking it in to a shop.
Oh I totally agree, I will be checking it myself now. The only thing about that post compared to what my car is doing is my car starts fine. I'll be driving and just all of a sudden about 5 different lights on my dash come on. At that time my fin goes up, no speedo, it won't change gears. I have to stop the car, turn it off and then back on. At that point I can continue for a while and they don't came back on, or after 20 seconds or so they came back on.
