Default Ecu

So the other morning I’m driving to work and all of a sudden all these lights on my dash came on. My speedometer stopped working and it wouldn’t change gears. I was only 60 seconds away from work, so when I pulled in I went to back into a parking stop and I had no reverse and no drive. I had to shut off the car and restart it and all the lights went away and I was able to park. That night I left nothing happened and I got home fine. A few days later it did it again so I took in to Autozone to have them check the codes. They were, transaxle control fault, Secondary Air Injection Fault, and the last one was something about a generator light was left on for more than 30 seconds after the car was running.
So I took it to where I bought it and the mechanic said that it’s all leading to the EMC. Has anyone had this issue yet? If so, what did you do and how much was it?
Thanks!

Lookup tecnical mods section, could be Relay Control Module, RCM. Never heard of the ECM failing, but possible. Lots of help available on this site. I'm sure you will get other responces too.

Alexfire,
You are correct about the battery could be the whole problem, thanks for whipping the horse.

Hard to say - what the hell is "The EMC"??? I guess he means the PTCM (Power Train Control Module).

I'm with the other guy - how old is your battery and what do the battery terminals look like?
(INCLUDING the lug on the battery ground cable where it bolts to the car - not just the battery end. Mine was AWFUL, I ended up buying a new ground cable, about $15 at O'Rielly's.)

The battery is brand new!!!! And when I went to AutoZone and they printed them out for me each one said that the ECU, sorry I typed EMC, reported each error.

OK, PM MrMopar and see if he has an ECU, but I'm not sure they are swappable without programming. I think they have the VIN encoded.

( Maybe you could get lucky and find one that already has the EC tune done and save some bucks by not having to pay EuroCharged for the tune )

This is not an ECU issue, its the RCM. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-no-start.html

I have never heard of an ECU going bad.

Ok, .................... 3 weeks ago I or my daughter had a simular problem. The car had no transmission. It was either in neutral or park. I was told that it may be that the transmission fluid was low..... NOPE that cost me $300. I was also told that it may be the TCM (transmission Control Modular) Nope...... That cost me another $100 to have it removed and inspected. The next possible cause is an electrical static plate that is in the transmission. (not sure exactly what it is called) I had that changed along with the trans fluid again10 days ago. So far that appears to have solved the problem. That cost me aother $500.

In the meantime I had the car inspected and added the 5 year or 70 k mile maxcare warranty that cost $3k. Now if the probem reappears she will get a new transmission.

Correction: Ok, I just called the mechanic and he said it is called a "COMMUNICATIONS PLATE".

I'm not aware of any static plates in the crossfire's auto transmission, maybe someone else has some better knowledge. I still think the RCM is the culprit.

Understand about the max care warranty, but, in the fine print you will find something regarding cost to repair versus value of the car. Not sure what the cost of a new transmission is, but it has to be way up there.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I'm going to take it in Monday....it's the strangest thing though. When I'm driving and it happens my fin comes up, I lose all gear except for what gear I'm in at the time it happnes. And if I stop and put it in park and then try putting it back into gear and hit the gas it's like its in netural. So what does the RCM do?

The RCM pretty much controls power to just about all of the important things in car. I would read that thread and try to fix it myself before i let the dealer rape me with the cost of a new RCM.

So why does the codes it threw show that the ECU was what detected the errors?

TO be honest i don't know, maybe it's cutting power to things related to the transaxle, i have a 6 speed so i cant tell you.

But i can tell you that when my RCM went out my engine randomly died, or wouldn't crank. The speedo would go all the way to 160 and back. I think taking 15 minuets of your time to check it would be worth the hundreds of dollars your going to spend taking it in to a shop.

I believe this is the part that your mechanic is saying is the culprit :

I was wondering what he was talking about. I actually have heard quite a few stories about conductor plates on Mercedes vehicles. Get this checked too.

The only problem is that i don't think conductor plates can trigger CEL's
