Default Re: Headliner reupholstering..

I found a good writeup from another member.. may not answer all your questions but it's worth a read...

The service manual is a good resource to know the sequence. I did it this way:
a.- Remove the sun visors (2 screws for each)
b.- Remove mirror from the base glued to the glass (pray then pull straight down)
c.- Remove the plastic over the interior lights (popsicle stick works)
d.- Remove the 2 screws holding the interior light assembly on
e.- Unplug the 2 wire conections (interior lights and garage door opener)
f.- Remove the side pillars (I inserted 2 wooden kitchen utensils from the top and pulled rather hard towards the interior, they snap off)
g.- Pull the rear sail trim panels down until one plastic clip lets loose
h.- Pull the center of the headliner push pin down (by the rear glass) and remove the trim pin
i.- Move the seats all the way front and recline them all the way back
j.- Gently pull on the perimeter and it will come down
k.- I don't know how I got it out the passenger door but thats where it comes out, take your time so you don't damage the corners. It's real tight and won't come out if the angle isn't just right. You can't come out diagonally or backwards or any other way except the installed orientation, front slightly diagonally down. Good luck!
l.- I forgot to remove the garage door opener but it was unplugged and come out with the headliner.

I know on the auto sticks, removing the shifter **** gives a little more clearance. It is a very tight fit through the passenger door opening.

You don't need to remove the mirror or shift ****. Fold seats foward put passanger window down and take out side door. WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER

all u do uis at the top of both c piller covers inside, pull it down, you don't need to take it out, just a lil space. in there u'll see one black clip (same as the one on the side carpet), take that off. and the liner is free the rest is just the front light, and visors and a pillars and weather strip.

then to take it out the car, u don't need to turn the liner, it will come out in the same direction as the roof thru the passanger door. just force it and keep moving i different angles. lemme know if u need any other help.

I thought you had to remove all the interior plastic trim around the hatch areato get it down. So just pull the plastic trim down where the headliner and the plastic meet and I'll see a black plastic clip, thats it?

youll see it holding it, no need to take off those huge pieces, just open enough to put your hand in. u use a flat screw driver or pry bar or something to take the center of the clip off first, then the outer piece. check the ones on the side carpet if u wanna see how the clips work

to clip those pieces (c-pillars) back in, put them toward the side of the car first, then up.the clips will break if u try going stright up. dont' ask how i know. lol
