The sensors are set while on the car, otherwise they could be set in the box and put anywhere. Later sensing systems can identify which tire is low in pressure. I think our sensors could do that but the receiver is not equipped to do it.
This is all I have gathered as I know nothing concrete at all. It appears to be a trade secret so dealers and the like can commit highway robbery.
Wife's Tahoe only knows what you tell it.. it currently tells you "Right front 25 psi".. actually when checked it is the right rear.. Tires were rotated front to back before we purchased it.. obviously.. and never programmed accordingly. But it does have the ability for the owner to do so.. it's in the manual.. wife can read..and push buttons.. but I guess she's good with it.. LOL Point here being it has no way to identify wheel location.. only where you tell it.
