You could try running a live diagnostic while driving, and keep a log of the charge temperature. You should feel the power cutout once it hits a certain threshold.

I had exactly the same problem and was planning to do that logging but ended up just replacing the pump. Fixed the issue completely.

Here is my story. The morals are: 1. don't mistake it for limp mode. 2. Don't take it to a dealer
