Default HE Pump Fault Conformation

Hi knowledgeable ones

I think my SRT has the old HE Pump fault the car has covered 45,000 miles and so i guess it's in that zone.

The way the fault manifests is that one minute you got accelerate and all is well and a you try again a few minutes later and there is nothing their, repeat the process a bit later and the power is back again.

My question is how can I be sure it's the Pump and not a sensor or something? Are there any checks I can do to confirm my theory?

TIA

More than likely it's the pump.

You are heading down the right path. Replace the pump first. This is exactly what happened to me.

But isn't the pump the most expensive part? That's why I want to try and mitigate any unnecessary spending.

Can I test the pump or any or the other possible causes and if so how?

thanks

You could try running a live diagnostic while driving, and keep a log of the charge temperature. You should feel the power cutout once it hits a certain threshold.

I had exactly the same problem and was planning to do that logging but ended up just replacing the pump. Fixed the issue completely.

Here is my story. The morals are: 1. don't mistake it for limp mode. 2. Don't take it to a dealer

Thanks for the reply RG and I'm glad you got your sorted (in the end) where did you get your pump from and can you remember how much it cost?

I wouldn't know where to start doing a live diagnostic

For the live diag you would need something like this plugged into the OBD (on board diagnostic) port of the car and into a USB port on a laptop. There is software that can provide pseudo real-time reports of various sensor outputs, one of which should be the charge temperature. I've not tried it specifically on the xfire but it *should* work.

I chose this pump because of several positive comments on this forum, and I didn't mind paying a little extra to make sure I was getting something that would fit. However they took ages to dispatch it, and then it didn't fit. The pump itself is the same but built for a smaller hose diameter. I had to replace the impeller housing with the one from my old pump. I think it's the same Mustang Cobra pump you can by elsewhere for a lot less money

Here is a place that has the correct OEM pump available:

New Bosch Intercooler Pump 0392022010 Mercedes 0005000386 | eBay

Here is some info about the original pump and the latest version of the pump made by Bosch - see posts 15 thru 29:

Here are some comparison photos of the pump I removed and the new pump that is available:

Good luck!!

Just a quick update here:

I ordered a new 010 Bosch pump as above and it arrived last week and fitted it on Saturday and got to test it on 100 mile drive on Sunday and its working perfectly.

Thank you to all who assisted in this thread.
