Hi Mo I wasn't sure if this was directed to me or the OP. But incase it's me I've done exactly that on several occasions albeit via text and the previous owner is getting me a new book stamped up by the dealer that looked after the car. The only problem being the dealer has had a change of PC and so don't go all the way back to when he was first looking after it.
