You get the test done so you have hard evidence on paper when you negotiate with the insurance company. They normally do not act on a person's word alone.
( although I was quite surprised by Dell : I called them yesterday to have a new keyboard put in my wife's XPS laptop, they responded with "We'll have someone out tomorrow, and he will replace the keyboard, the main board and the cooling fan also, all under warranty"
( I had mentioned that it also got quite hot at times )
