I get where you are coming from. But, "killer cars" needn't be impractical, expensive garage queens that are at odds with having a family. A Dodge Charger with a Hemi stickers less than thirty large, is great fun to drive, and can seat a bunch of people. For a smaller (younger) family, the aforementioned GTO is not a bad bet. And, BMW makes a whole range of four door cars that can be a ton of fun, practical, and if bought slightly used, affordable to boot. If money is tighter yet, an Alfa 164S in mint condition can be had for about ten grand, and would be a t on of fun to own.
I just don't see having a family as an obstacle to automotive enthusiasm, as long as the latter remains a (perhaps lesser) priority. I plan on having kids too, someday. But, please drive to my house and beat me up in my driveway, if I ever become a Camry owner? That nondescript appliance, my friend, is not a necessary evil that comes with having a family!
