I think US auto makers (GM?) like the look of a "finished" center. I agree with you. It's just that with the machined recess for the large cap, removing it and adding the small one just looks...unfinished? IDK...like you said: "to each their own..."

Chuck those babies in a lathe and blend the edges! It would certainly look like it was meant to be?
