Got some center caps
Picked up a set of AMG center caps and painted the bolts with low gloss engine enamel. I never liked the huge stock caps as they hid the shape of the wheel and the bolts. I'm getting my wheels refinished in a few weeks and was thinking of filling in the circle that the stock caps sit against Let me know what you guys think.

To each their own I guess. Huge caps that cover the lugs scream - I'm a cheap and poorly designed American wheel/car (as in the pic) since it's where 99% of them are found. The design is way outdated and aside from the above are only typically used on generic aftermarket wheels with multiple bolt patterns since having empty holes is not that attractive either.

Chuck those babies in a lathe and blend the edges! It would certainly look like it was meant to be?

I hear you and that's a great idea, I'll call a few places to see if they would do that and then get them refinished. At the very least ill fill that small circular area.
just clean them up and get some chrome bolts!

Well there is some curb rash... Compliments of previous owner otherwise I probably would not bother plus I want a polished aluminum finish that would look a bit different. No offense to your style but I hate chrome, just don't think it belongs on modern cars, will probably paint the front/rear badges low gloss black and debadge the rear.

I'd be very careful and have it done at a shop experienced in this type of work, start of with a wrongly sharpened and set cutting bit and the finish will be crap. The wheel needs to be true and fitted to an accurate mandrel. No room for error unless you want lightweight rims.
Dave, methinks you worry too much. We're not talking a critical or load-bearing area, here. It's a cosmetic cut only, and the OP just stated that the finish will be re-done to his liking.
It might look like grim death, but a kid with a rotary sanding tool could remove what needs to go.

If you want a job done right you give it to the guy or gal with the best experience in that type of work, it pays in the end. It's a bit late when you see the tool dig in or the wheel sailing across the shop floor.
Yeah I worry because I have spent too much time in machine shops and I have seen the cowboys who called themselves machinists.

Anyone have an idea where I can get a set of these center caps. im going to remove my center covers, fill the gap as the above poster posted, but want something to fill in the center to paint black. And idea of the diameter??? maybe I can find a universal one.
