Probably something similar. Some of those pulleys had the grooves machined to far forward relative to the location face on the crankshaft. Tighed1 had some material machined of the back face of the pulley and it corrected the problem. Some of the photos showed the problem but it was ignored by many as the length of the pulley looked OK.
The same has happened when the OEM pulley started to disintegrate. The rubber shock absorber started to fail and the crank pulley moved forward relative to the crankshaft.
Because of the misalignment the belt jumps a groove backward and hits the raised rib at the back of the pulley which cuts the rear rib off. These belts are strong and rigid sideways and do not take kindly to be out of alignment not like the old 'V' belts. The misalignment is also obvious on the smooth pulleys.
I erased a lot of my posts as people said they were to wordy, I was going to rewrite them but never bothered. I said f*** it and left them to figure it out.
