Me: I just made some modifications to my car and I used bad judgment in attempting to see how they were working out on the street. I am not a speeder and I have never had the car that fast before.
Judge: anything else?
Me: yes your honor. My wife is disabled with MS and loosing my license would cause a hardship on the family. I have two young children I must get to school and back everyday and I do not believe my wife is capable of making these trips. My past record is clean both drivind no dui's wreckless oops and no criminal history.
judge: guilty maximum penalty. Next
I would have left out the part about modding the car and not being a speeder, I think that'd be a red flag to a judge. I would say that judge didn't believe a word of it and as far as he's concerned you just lied to him, that's not how you get mercy from the court system. Of course, there's a good chance that you were going to get the maximum allowable punishment anyways. As far as the last part, that's just ruthless... he could have at least pointed you in the right direction for getting a hardship license! But it's not his job, and I don't think that that's his decision to make. Admittedly the judge that I got was pretty awesome, he told us beforehand that he wasn't going to make us plead until after he told us if we were eligible for traffic school or not because there were criminal charges associated with all of us and he didn't believe it was fair. Glad you got your license back!
