Actually a $1,000 isn't that bad. When I was in Oahu in 1972, I stopped in a new car dealer to see what the shipping was on a car I was about to buy back home. From Kenosha Wis. to Oahu it was $442, vs $42 from Kenosha to Akron, Ohio. Not a bad increase for 33 years.
