I was 17, my dad knew the fleet manager at an AMC dealer. unfortunately, they firmed at 3500 for the AMX, so I ended up with a 73 gremlin x for 2000. when you made 1.65 an hour at 17 that 1500 might as well as being 15 'million. loved that gremlin though til it got traded on the 75 nova ss. Btw, look at the specs of size and weight between the Cross and the gremlin. not that far off. getting in the Cross sometimes makes me feel that old gremlin again for a lot of reasons.
mdaniels4. You have lived my life. Back in 1974 I wanted my first new car. The man who lived downstairs of me in a two family house was a salesman at a local AMC dealer. He said he would give me a good deal on a new car. I walked into the dealership and there in front of me was a fully loaded Javelin AMX in light blue. It had a sticker of $4500.00. I loved that car, but like you I thought I can't afford that. I was making $1.70 hr at the time. I ended up with a Red 74' Gremlin X that cost me $3200. out the door. I loved my Gremlin too. It got traded later on for a 1972 Javelin AMX. I almost bought another 74' AMX last fall off of Ebay. They cost a little more now. The dealer and I agreed on $19K for a fully loaded one. When I emailed him back to say I had the loan approved he told me it was sold.
