With all that rewiring, no telling where your problem is. That said, a good LARGE capacitor should take care of the peak voltage handling BUT you might have to slave a battery into the system (if it is the power demands for the stereo and all connections are nominal for the system and the car). If it is not stereo system related, that is another ball - o - wax that caps and batteries cannot correct. Just my $0.02 worth.
