Witness the almost 10000 posts that he has rung up. Dave is an OLD crouchy fella, (not as old as I), and has a unique and acid sense of humor.
I mean no disrespect, but I think you will find him a really nice, stand up person, and you being a relative 'newbie" here, should take a step back, and see what he's really like. Just sayin .....
