Well I'm having the same sort of problem except it says its in recovery mode and when i try to recover it, i get the USB error message. So now I cant even recover my ECU.....Did you ever get it to work? Feel free to throw some suggestions my way!

I was able to get mine to work eventually, but never had issues with recovering the ECU, only flashing to performance tune.
I really didn't get into trouble shooting a whole lot.
The only difference i can think of when it failed, compared to when I got it to work this morning, was having a battery charger hooked up.
