I've had the car since 2007 (bought used w/20K) I had not changed or checked ATF/filter. Drained the oil. Measured and had not quite 3 qts in pan. I know there should be 8 qts total, but since not all drains, I'm wondering "how low" can I guestimate I was with the 3>qts that came out?
I will probably end up buying a dipstick to be accurate, but in these tough economic times, any input/advice would be helpful
You do not need to buy a dipstick, the forum has the answer to this problem. I use a hose from the top sider I use for oil changes and others use a plastic tie as described by Woody Waldig. Basically anything will do as long as it goes down the tube on the transmission and keeps the true oil level showing.
