Default Screen washer problem

I hope that I am posting in the right category as the problem is electrical.

My problem is the screen washer sprayer not working, but there is a mini history to this.

Around June last year the “washer fluid empty light” started coming on intermittently. Sometimes it was on and sometimes it was not and it would stay on even if I filled the reservoir completely. During this time the sprayers worked fine despite the warning light. However, at the end of the year (before I over-wintered the car) the light went off completely and the sprayers stopped working. No water and no noise from the sprayer motor (as if the power was cut off).

A friend has suggested to me that it might be an idea to inspect the water reservoir and motor to see if the cause is corrosion of any connectors. He says that normally there will be a plug connector going into the motor and that if this has corroded it will be a simple matter of rubbing away the corrosion from the plug.

Does this sound probable and if so does anyone have either: any experience of doing this; or any photos showing the water reservoir/motor (I assume that the wheel needs removing first) so that I can see what things look like.

Any advice/photos will be very welcome.
