It only appears to happen in first gear and it doesn't have to be a hot day necessarily, just a lot of moisture in the air. I don't really know how else to describe it other than the clutch feels like it's not gripping properly.
Are you hearing anything that seems like a part of this puzzle?
I really don't understand a cluth failing at 50,000 miles - unless the former owner only THOUGHT they understood how to drive a stick. My '93 GMC truck went 406,000 on the factory clutch !
